Porch Swing for the St Jude Dream Home Giveaway

As a father, i could never imagine getting the news that one of my children were ill, especially with something as serious as Cancer. So when i saw our local home developer (Elliot Homes) that does the annual St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I reached out to see if i could donate a piece of furniture to be a part of this magnificent cause. I asked what they would like to add to the home and they requested a porch swing, so a swing is what i made. I chose a unique design with the chippendale pattern in the seat back and made a plan that would maximize the material, while creating a solid swing that would last for years outdoors. I primarily used mortise and tenon joinery to ensure a solid frame, while using a modern design that would stand out in the crowd. I was supported on this project by my lumber supplier Jubilee Specialty Wood Products in Mobile, AL and they donated the lumber to build the swing at their cost. I’m really happy with how this project turned out and so glad i got to be a small part of the home giveaway! Elliot homes raised $800, 000 in just six weeks, through sales of the tickets that are raffled off for a chance to win the home. The designer was also inspired by the pattern i chose for the swing and had the builders add the same pattern in the banister of the staircase that leads to the second floor of the home. A HUGE shoutout to Elliot Homes for giving so generously to St Jude Research Hospital to help fight childhood cancer and for letting me be a tiny part of that project. Check out the build video on how i made the swing, and if you would like to support Dimensions Wood Works, I have made plans available for the swing in my store. https://dimensionswoodworks.com/product/porch-swing-plans-for-chippendale-style-swing-st-jude-dream-home/
