DIY Swing

This DIY Swing was built for a neighbor that wanted to spruce up their back yard. It is constructed from Eastern Red Cedar and will last for many years to come. I had a focus on keeping it comfortable and also having it be a knock down design so it could be moved from one space to another without too much of a struggle. The main sub assemblies are composed of 6 pieces that can be broken down to move, or in this case, be put away for the months that the owners leave to their out of state home. Construction of outdoor furniture should be done with materials that hold up well in the elements. Common materials are: Cedar, Cypress or Redwood. Since i am located in the southern United States, my two main options are Cedar and Cypress. I had a piece of each species to show the neighbor and they preferred the look of the Cedar so that’s what I went with. I really enjoy working with Cedar because it has beautiful colors and makes my shop smell GREAT! I wanted to offer others the opportunity to make the swing for themselves so i made detailed plans to go along with this build. You can find them in my store.
